Thank you for your interest in Windows Update
Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that helps you get
the most out of your computer.
========================================================================
You need to be running a version of Internet Explorer 5 or higher in
order to use Windows Update.
========================================================================
Download the latest version of Internet Explorer
Once Internet Explorer is installed, you can go to the Windows Update
site by typing http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com into the address bar
of Internet Explorer.

Cuz they use ActiveX to nose around on the hard drive. C-Net CatchUp
needs IE, also. But, you can use BigFix with its own downloader to get
most updating accomplished.
P.S. Don't try to get your free e-books for MSReader using Mozilla.
(Easiest with MSN Explorer.) Nigel L .

You'll need a browser that can run viruses to run an automatic windows
update. What I do is to dl any windows patches to my hard drive and then
run them at my convenience. PLus I have the updates when I have to
reinstall Windows.

That's because they use ActiveX components to scan your computer against a list
of available patches, to determine what you have and what you need. Since
ActiveX is native code, and horribly insecure, Mozilla doesn't support it
(thankfully).

Well, duh. My Ford won't take Chevvy parts. Darn.
IE is a PART of Windows, and the tools it incorporates for Windows updating
aren't in ANY other browser. Sigh.
