I have been experiencing intermittent Mozilla crashes when attempting to
access a secondary email account via Excite's free webmail page. It
doesn't happen every time, and it seems to have begun only recently.
I've been using the account in an attempt to divert spam from my primary
address when ordering via web or subscribing to newsletters, etc. and
this hasn't happened before the last couple of days. It may be possible
that Excite has changed something on their site that Mozilla doesn't like.

May have answered my own question. I have recently begun using a hosts
file to block a number of known ad servers including those from Excite.
I renamed the file, and now Mozilla doesn't crash on Excite mail. Not
sure how that could cause crashes, but it certainly seems to. This is
the only change I have made in the past few days, so I thought I'd try
reversing it and see if it helped.

Yup, that's it. I accessed the page five times with hosts disabled (via
rename)...no crashes. Re-enabled the hosts file and tried to access it
again...crash.

Interesting. Mozilla NEVER crashes on me. Hmm....think I'ss see if IE or
N4 experiences the same with hosts file enabled.

Well...neither IE nor N 4.8 will access http://www.excite.com with the
hosts file I am using. They try forever and ever, but never quite make
it. However, both will load the mail page http://mail.excite.com with no
problems. Mozilla crashes when attempting to load the mail page whether
through the home page link or directly. It does, though, load the excite
home page just fine (minus the ads). Renaming the hosts file causes all
three browsers to access the pages just fine.

I guess my brief experiement with ad-blocking via hosts file has come to
an untimely end.
